Some users have reported seeing a pop-up notification from our software indicating that their microphone is muted; even though others on the call can hear them just fine. This can understandably be confusing, but in most cases, your microphone is not actually muted.
What causes this?
We've found that certain video or call platforms automatically adjust microphone sensitivity. This can sometimes cause the mic input level to briefly drop to zero, which Clarity interprets as the microphone being muted.
For example:
-
Microsoft Teams has a setting called "Automatically adjust mic sensitivity". If this setting is turned on, Teams may momentarily reduce your microphone level to zero during quiet moments. This temporary change can trigger our "microphone muted" notification.
What should I do?
If you’re experiencing this issue, we recommend the following steps:
-
Check your call software settings:
-
In Microsoft Teams, go to Settings > Devices, and disable "Automatically adjust mic sensitivity".
-
For other platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Skype), look for similar settings related to automatic microphone volume adjustment or input level control.
-
-
Manually set your microphone level:
-
Set your preferred mic level manually and disable any automatic gain or volume control settings if available.
-
