Microsoft Edge Optimisation
Improving latency caused by high CPU usage
On laptops with limited resources, Microsoft Edge can often consume up to 45% of the system CPU. This has the knock on effect of degrading system performance along with the performance of IRIS Clarity which can result in latency of speech, resulting in delay in conversation.
There are three settings we can adjust to help optimise Microsoft Edge to reduce the impact on CPU:
- Start Up Boost
- Running Background Extensions
- Maximum Efficiency Mode
Step One: Open Microsoft Edge
Step Two: Open Microsoft Edge Settings
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner to open the drop down menu
- Click on Settings in this menu
Step Three: Start Up Boost & Background Extensions
- Select System Performance in the left hand menu
- Click the "Start-Up Boost" button at the top of the page
- Toggle OFF "Start-Up Boost"
- Toggle OFF "Continue running background extensions and app when Edge is closed"
Step Four: Maximum Efficiency Mode
- Navigate back to the System and performance page
- Click on Performance
- Toggle ON "Enable efficiency mode"
- Select Maximum Savings
